Weekly update w/e 29th July

With two games still to go in the Tunbridge Wells Triples League, Grosvenor were confirmed winners of Division Two, securing promotion to Division One next season. Knowing that, Grosvenor still managed to take all 6 points from our away fixture at Speldhurst this week. The final league game is at home against Rotherfield on Thursday 2nd August - spectators are welcome!

On a very hot Wednesday evening, we played a friendly fixture against Culverden, half wishing that the sprinklers would come on mid-game! We had enjoyed a very close game overall with a lovely, friendly club, but were pleased that Grosvenor came out with a narrow win.

On a much cooler, breezier Saturday afternoon, we played host to twelve 10 pin bowlers from the South Eastern Counties league for a fun afternoon drive. With everyone having learnt the basics, we played three separate games of drawn pairs (4 ends, 4 ends, and 6 ends), scoring as individuals and as Grosvenor vs SEC. We enjoyed a brilliant afternoon in great company, and Grosvenor retained the trophy we play for in these challenge matches, winning by 210 shots to 127!

The individual runners-up (one from each team) were:

Ann Mannell (SEC)

J Paul Lambert (Grosvenor)

The individual winners (one from each team) were:

Anita Denton (SEC - also a  Grosvenor bowler playing her first season!)

Sheila Huggett (Grosvenor)

Thank you to everyone for coming along to play, spectate, help set up and pack up, share the tea and do the washing up. You all made the afternoon the lovely occasion that it was!

A reminder that the Tunbridge Wells Open Tournament week begins Monday 6th August, with finals day at The Grove on Saturday 11th August. Several Grosvenor bowlers are taking part, so please go along to support our players and the tournament in general if you can. There is a really good atmosphere and it is important to support the clubs that kindly host this competition, The Grove and Culverden.
